Daily Devotion – March 18, 2021
Romans 1:1-7, 26-27
Weekly Theme: From Death to Life
Today: Unashamed

I was once told to read the book of Romans if I wanted to truly understand the righteousness of God. I have read it several times and have found this statement to be true.  Paul's letter to the Romans, certainly has taught me what the righteousness of God means and how it is to be lived out in the life of the Christian and the Church. My testimony and yours are based on how God has made us right by grace through Jesus Christ so that we might live by faith. So how do we live by faith? The book of Romans is our guide for understanding righteousness and living a righteous life.

In today’s reading, Paul tells the Romans and us that we first must understand that we are “set apart” for sharing the gospel, the good news of Jesus. Furthermore, we are to share this good news by being aware that through the resurrection, the visible illustration of Jesus moving from death to life reveals Jesus’ divine nature. Jesus is the One who makes it possible for us to be at one with God. In other words, it is through the grace of God evidenced in the life, death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ that we can experience peace.

This is the gospel story. Are we sharing this great story or are we ashamed to share it? In verses 16 and 17, we are reminded of both the power of the gospel to save sinners and to give victory to believers as they live by faith. It is only through the gospel -- Jesus came, Jesus died for our sins, Jesus was buried, Jesus was resurrected, victorious over death – that the righteousness of God is revealed. God desires for all to be “made right” with God and through Jesus this has been made possible.

Being “made right” does not mean that Christians are better than or good enough but are made right only through the mighty acts of God and through his Son, Jesus Christ. Paul reminds us that we should not be ashamed to share the gospel. Why? Because it is the Christian’s most important responsibility and has the power of God necessary for salvation to everyone who believes it. God desires that this good news of the story of Jesus Christ be shared with everyone so that they too can be made right. God created us to love us and desires for all to be returned to being in perfect love with him.

Dear Lord, thank you for the good news of Jesus Christ, our Lord, Savior and Redeemer. Please help us each to realize our responsibility as followers of your Son, Jesus, to be unashamed in sharing the good news with everyone. Lead us to opportunities to share this good news with others and help us determine how we might do that every day. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
