Ephesians 3:14-20
Immeasurably More

Have you ever tried to measure love for your spouse, your children, your parents or your friends? It is hard to put into words… my kids and I used to say (and still do even though they are all grown), that we love each other “out the window” or “to infinity and beyond”. Although we do not like to admit it, there is no earthly love that compares to that of God, the Father.

Paul expresses God's desire for us to experience and share the Father’s love in his prayer for the Ephesians. God desires for every family and person on earth to experience the glorious riches, blessings and strength that can only come from the power of the Holy Spirit. It is through this same Spirit that Christ dwells in our hearts and establishes us in love with each other as God’s people. The prayer of Paul is that God’s people will be able to grasp the width, height, and depth of this love of Christ. This might not be something we can wrap our brains around, but it is something that through Christ helps us experience a fullness for love that can only come from God. The power of God is immeasurable and at work in us to move us to do what we can never imagine doing. It moves us to recognize the love of Christ in us and to let that love pour out to all people, even those we may find difficult to love.

Right now, more than ever, we need to pray that we may receive the immeasurable and glorious riches God wants to bestow on us...the fullness and richness of God's love. May we all be strengthened and established by the power of the Holy Spirit to share God’s intended love for all people, to put aside all signs of hatred, bias and racism, aknowledge God's love in us and allow us to love without boundaries... out the window... to infinity and beyond.

Dear God, we thank you for the glorious and immeasurable gifts you have poured out on us through your Son, Jesus, by the power of your Spirit. Helps us to be strengthened by your power and love, to overcome those things that are unjust and to share your love with all people. Help us to know you will provide us with the power to love, forgive and acknowledge our own biases.  May we be convicted and overcome by your Spirit to identify places in our lives where we have biases and prejudice and experience Godly love that can only be found when we are in relationship with you. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
