Questions and Answer

Children are wonderful and truly a gift from God. One of many things I love about them is they seem to never be afraid to ask questions. Their curiosity is amazing. Somewhere along the way as we grow up, we lose our curiosity and think that we have found answers to most of life’s questions. We think we have everything figured out and are fixed on certain answers to some very important questions. But today’s passage reminds us that just about all of our difficult questions about life can be answered in one word, by One Word. God is the answer to all of life’s difficult questions.

Let’s take a look at a few of those questions from today’s passage. There are 15 questions in these 15 verses… way too many to list here... but are all questions that we have probably pondered at some point in our lives. Rather than list the questions I will categorize them into topics surrounding the source of: creation, instruction, status, image, knowledge, power, and understanding. I am sure I did not capture all topics that Isaiah lists here but can tell you there is only one answer...God... and from God come all answers concerning these topics and many others.

Two of the questions are repeated and seem to express Isaiah’s frustration with God’s people: The questions “Do you not know?” and “Have you not heard?” appear two times in verses 21 and 28. Isaiah seems to be saying, “Don’t you get it?”… God is the answer and source of all questions concerning all topics. He is the source of strength, power, hope and perseverance. Nearly every difficult question can be resolved if we just turn the question over to God...current questions such as “Why is America dealing with two viruses right now – COVID 19 and Racism?” God is the only One who can help us navigate through this difficult question. God is love (1 John 4:16) and if we allow the Spirit of God to live within us, we will have resolve, peace, and love through these difficult times. We may not be able to trace the answers based on our knowledge but we can trace the answer back to God spiritually and trust God as the One who created us, will deliver and sustain us, save us and intercede on our behalf in every situation we find ourselves in.

Yes, we do have lots of questions… and no matter how much we study and learn, we will never have all the answers. If we as children of God direct our difficult questions to our Father, God will enlighten us and give us strength and hope when we grow weary. God is the answer to all of life’s difficulties and the One who will see us through them. Won’t you put your hope and trust in God today? Do you not know? Have you not heard? God is THE answer.

Dear God, thank you for giving us curiosity and a mind that we might use to reason and think. And thank you for being the source of all answers about life’s difficult questions. Help us to turn to you with these questions and trust you as the source of all strength, hope and enlightenment. Help us to turn to your Word for instruction and knowledge so that we might better understand Your Way and wait upon you for renewal. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
