Event Planning for the Feast
Reading: Mark:12-26

In this day of meal, event, schedule and life planning, we find that our plans have been disrupted by what is going on in the world today.  Maybe some who are tied to tight scheduling, this period of disruption has been a welcomed change while for others they may feel lost.  Jesus was the ultimate planner but he involved others in executing the plans.  Jesus knew the vision for this Holy Week and gave very specific, detailed instructions to Peter and John regarding the location for this very important moment where Jesus observes the Passover and institutes a tradition that we still honor in our churches today through the sacrament of Holy Communion.

In this text, Jesus reminds us of the necessary actions needed in constantly preparing ourselves spiritually:

- willingness to respond to the word "go"
- "look" for the things Jesus desires for you to "see"
- "Respond" - Once the disciples saw the man with the jar, they responded by following him as he enters a house.
- "Speak"  - Share what Jesus has asked you to share.  He gives each one of us a message each and every day.  We need to speak that message.  And let the Holy Spirit do the rest.
- "Serve" - prepare for others --- be hospitable.  The preparation for the meal itself was a way of serving Jesus and others.  It involved preparing the Passover lamb, unleavened bread, sauces, and other ceremonial food and drink.  It most likely took several hours to do this... and it was an act of serving Jesus and serving others.

How about us?  Are we willing to be open to the acts of preparation Jesus speaks into our lives each day?  Are we going forward looking and listening and actually seeing and hearing what Jesus is telling us?  Do we respond to what Jesus is speaking into our lives and then do we speak out when the time comes to share what Jesus has asked us to share?  Are we serving others by carrying out that which Jesus has laid on our heart to do for him and for others?  As we move through this Holy Week, let's commit to being event planners for Jesus to help share in the celebration of what God has done, what God is doing and what God is going to do.  Let's take this time of being "set aside" to consider how we might refocus our event planning to include Jesus.

Dear God, help us to open up our minds, eyes, ears, hearts and spirits to be fully aware of your instructions to us this day.  Help us be willing to go forward and carry those instructions out so that we might better serve you and better serve the others you place in our lives.  And we give this to you in the name of Jesus, the great event planner, who showed us how to always be prepared to respond to you.  Amen.
