Fixing Your Eyes
Readings: 2 Corinthians 4

One of the things that I have experienced through COVID-19 is not being able to get to a few essential doctor appointments.  One of those is with my opthamologist; I am extremely nearsighted and lately have had some blurred vision in my left eye and have trouble focusing as I read, type and even drive.  I need to get my eyes fixed soon so that I can see things more clearly.

We have another set of eyes...our spiritual eyes.  Today's Scripture reading invites us to do some things to ensure that we maintain clear spiritual vision and keep our eyes fixed on God.  First, we are to set forth the truth plainly and let the light of Jesus shine out of darkness so that God will be glorified.  We also need to show the power of God at work in our lives.  Right now we may feel that we are pressed, perplexed, persecuted and struck down by COVID-19 but God is still in control and because God is in control we are not crushed, in despair, abandoned, nor destroyed.  Although there is death resulting from this virus, the life is at work in each one of us through God's Holy Spirit.

Amidst suffering, perplexity, persecution and feeling abandoned, we can demonstrate great resolve during these trying times by being in a relationship with Jesus and not fixing our eyes on what is seen but on that which is unseen and is  in Jesus Christ our Lord. When we fix our eyes on Jesus, all things blurry become clearer and God then equips us to respond to circumstances and to others in Christian love.

Dear God, Thank you for giving us sharp spiritual vision.  Help us to keep our eyes fixed on you as we navigate through these difficult and unpecedented times in our lives.  Give us great ability to sharpen our focus and see how we might better serve you by serving others through the many means with which you have equipped and empowered us.  In Jesus' name. Amen.
