Pastor: Connie Belmore

READING: 2 Corinthians 5:1-10

I don’t know about you but the older I get, the more I hear myself grunting and groaning more and more when I try to get up out of a chair that’s too low or, as I stand up after sitting on the floor. I’m just not able to jump right back up like I used to. While we long for our younger bodies, the truth is that younger bodies are.were not “all that” either. No matter how fit you or I might be or might have been, this old body is going to wear out and will never bring us spiritual confidence.

In today’s reading, Paul is reminding the Corinthians (and us) that to be living in our physical bodies is to be absent from the Lord. In other words, as we yield to these earthly bodies and do that which is pleasing for this temporary “tent” that we live in, we are distancing from, or not being present with, the Lord. The solution is very simple: we should always make it our goal to please Jesus, whether we are in this body or away from it. As long as we make "pleasing Jesus" our goal, we will be present with the Lord. When we are present with the Lord we are clothed with our heavenly dwelling. And we will be confident spiritually with no more moaning and groaning.
